A candid dating chat on her talk show

The conversation unfolded during a Drew’s News segment on The Drew Barrymore Show, where Barrymore was joined by co-host Ross Mathews and Food Network star Sunny Anderson. What began as a light-hearted discussion about dating quickly turned into an honest take on modern romance.

Mathews, who married Wellinthon García in 2022, reminded viewers that dating is meant to be enjoyable. Barrymore, however, wasn’t so optimistic.

“Can you tell the men I go on dates with that?” she joked, adding that her recent dating experiences haven’t exactly been smooth. “I feel like they missed the memo.”

‘I have children, it feels wrong now’

Things took a sharper turn when Anderson asked whether Barrymore had considered dating men in their 20s. The 50 First Dates star shut the idea down immediately.

“No,” Barrymore said bluntly. “I’m totally grossed out by that. I have children, and it just feels wrong now.”
Barrymore is a mother to two daughters, aged 13 and 11, whom she shares with ex-husband Will Kopelman.

Motherhood, she explained, has fundamentally reshaped how she views relationships and boundaries.

A differing take on age-gap dating

While Barrymore wasn’t sold on the idea, Anderson offered a contrasting perspective, revealing that she had dated younger men in her 40s and enjoyed it.

The discussion sparked some playful banter, with Mathews asking Anderson whether she was in her 30s or 40s at the time. Anderson clarified she was in her 40s and described the experience as carefree, adding that she was upfront about not seeking anything serious.

What Drew really wants from dating now

For Barrymore, however, dating today comes with a longer checklist. She shared that she now prefers to get important conversations out of the way early, everything from political views to personal values and even TV preferences.

“It’s about weeding people out sooner,” she implied, emphasizing that emotional compatibility matters more than casual fun at this stage of her life.

An ongoing conversation about modern romance

Barrymore has frequently spoken about her frustrations with dating in today’s world, often using her daytime talk show as a space to explore vulnerability, boundaries, and self-awareness. The Drew Barrymore Show is currently in its sixth season.
